 |
Counterfeiters are prolific and they are hard to spot.
Protect yourself in 3 easy steps...step 3 will surprise you!
(And learn what websites have been caught selling fake UGG®)
|
|
Step 1:Realize that as an online consumer, you are not protected against crime driven business. Read below and see that it's ultimately up to you, the consumer, to avoid being scammed.
|
|
Counterfeit UGG sites make a living by ripping you off. You are lucky to receive fake UGG boots at all; many sites simply steal your credit card information and never send a package.
Nancy K. from Bridgewater, MA called FleeceFootwear and told us her story after being scammed:
"I wanted to get my daughter Classic Shorts for Christmas. I searched 'ugg boots' and clicked on www.uggbootsdiscount.com [one of the top search results]. They did a good job making the site look real with pictures of UGGs and even the UGG logo. I had no suspicion whatsoever...
I payed through PayPal, which I thought was safe...when the boots arrived, they were so fake it was ridiculous. They didn't even have shearling [the fluffy material] on the inside of the boots!
When I tried to return them, they could only be contacted by email, and the return paperwork they emailed me was in Chinese...I tried contacting PayPal and all they said was that I received boots, and they couldn't get into any counterfeit battle."
Counterfeit UGG websites deceive you, the consumer, and often steal your credit card information. They send you inferior product (see images to right) and they won't let you return it. Counterfeiters ignore human labor laws, copyright laws and environmental regulations.
Most fake websites are based out of China, making it almost impossible for law enforcement agencies to bring them down. This puts the responsibility on you, the consumer, to educate yourself against these scams.
Don't get ripped off like Nancy K.! Follow the next two steps to avoid getting duped by crime driven business.

Tell Tale Signs of the "Best" Counterfeit UGG®
(Although most fakes are so obvious they need no explanation)
|
- Poor stitching that falls apart
with little-to-no wear
- Low quality acrylic "sheepskin"
- Glued, skimpy lining (Genuine UGG boots have a plush, twin-faced, natural lining)
- Lopsided heels
- Very stiff soles
- Crooked "UGG" heel label
- Beware of prices that are much lower than market price (this
does not include limited time offers.)

|
|
Step 2: Learn the ins and outs of internet security. Be able to recognize secure websites, like FleeceFootwear.
|
|
Fleecefootwear.com is scanned, tested and certified daily by McAfee SECURE® , the leading provider in online security*. This means all your information is transmitted and encrypted without risk using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) Technology.
*(Also look for other popular security providers like Verisign and Trust-Guard.)
Counterfeiters do not invest in security measures, because they do not value your confidential information. However, many fake UGG sites do display security icons, which are fake. To determine if a security icon is fake, attempt to click on it.
Buyer Beware: All legitimate security icons can be clicked so that you can verify the legitimacy of the service. If you cannot click the security icon, there is a strong chance that this site sells counterfeit UGG.
If you look to the left of FleeceFootwear's McAfee security seal, you will see a blue icon denoting that FleeceFootwear is accredited by the Better Business Bureau.
The Better Business Bureau's main concern is that a website uses ethical business practices. The BBB will not accredit a site that sells fake UGGs.
|
Most counterfeit sites display a security icon (see below), but you will NOT be able to click on the icon!
FleeceFootwear's McAfee Secure
and Better Business Bureau*
icons are located on the top right of the
homepage.

*Not all authorized sites are accredited
by the BBB like FleeceFootwear.com. However, just like the security seal, you
MUST be able to click on the BBB icon
if it is present. |
|
Step 3 Learn to differentiate authorized UGG® Australia dealers, like FleeceFootwear.com, from fake sites.
|
|
Any site that uses the word "ugg" in the domain name* (other than uggaustralia.com) is almost certainly NOT an authorized dealer!
*See the tip box to the right for quick tips on recognizing domain names.
Remember Nancy K.? She was scammed at http://www.uggbootsdiscount.com which is a fake site with UGG in the domain name.
UGG Australia does not allow authorized dealers to use the word 'ugg' in the domain name! This is the easiest way to sift through fake UGG sites.
Try searching for 'ugg boots' in google, you'll be shocked how many unauthorized sites come up!
To view a list of all authorized UGG dealers, visit uggaustralia.com. Click on 'retailers'. Next click on 'online retailers.' A list will appear with all authorized dealers. Notice FleeceFootwear is on the list (see image on right)!
Buyer Beware: Don't be a victim! Learn even more tips on recognizing fake UGG sites by reading this informative article.
