Oh, what UGG dare do!

I read an article the other day bashing the poor podiatric value of UGG, claiming that the lack of sufficient arch support can lead to dreadful results like a turned ankle and bad posture. Later in the article the author commented that fashion labels who make high heels will stand the test of time because they are worth the potential hammer toes and bunions.

Really? This is your argument? That you might twist your ankle IN A BOOT, but 4 inch heels will ONLY give you bunions and back pain? If you’ve ever walked in 4 or 5 inch heels you become quite aware of your own mortality. Yes, you feel sexy and powerful and masterfully skilled to have not fallen over….yet. I can understand an argument against UGG boots that they do not have much arch support, because for most of the styles that is true. But really, the majority of shoes people wear have minimal arch support, which is generally only a problem if you wear shoes like that for your 2 hour walk every day.

And of course, why didn’t I think of it: relaxed posture is just soo much worse than unnaturally flexed ankles and back strain caused by walking tip toe on a thin spike! Heaven forbid we be allowed to relax in our footwear. Darn UGG boots are making us so comfortable we forgot to tense every muscle as we walk!

OK, I know this reaction is a little severe. There will be individual issues and benefits to any shoe you wear. So what have you noticed about your UGGs, negative and positive?

UGG in the Wild

I visited the river the other day, and I’ve learned something very valuable about moving bodies of water in the Pacific Northwest: they are very cold. I managed to tentatively wade into the water, bit by bit so I could adjust to the temperature. Suddenly, struck with a bold inclination I dove into the water, only to come up gasping at the temperature shock.  At that moment I think I decided I was done with water for the day.

Back on land, shivering under my towel the thought occured to me, “UGG boots would be perfect here.” Surfers wore UGG to keep warm after gallivanting about in the waters of Australia and California, so why not wear cozy UGG boots after wandering into a freezing cold river on a whim? If it worked for surfers in warm locales, it would be even more fitting for the outdoorsy types who relish the exhilirating shock of freezing your bum off.  Living in such a beautiful location it seems a shame not to enjoy the forests, lakes and rivers this area has to offer, but I’m not willing to freeze in exchange. Seems like it may be time to invest in some cozy UGG Classics for my next outdoors excursion!

The Killers have killer style

The Killers front man Brandon Flowers (as well as the rest of the group) were recently spotted sporting the UGG Hartsville at the Hard Rock Calling festival in Hyde Park, London.  Flowers also customized a pair of UGG boots with flowers and his signature for charity. Have you ever personalized a pair of your UGG boots? Do you have any tips or ideas to share? We would love to hear about them in the comments!

Much Ado about UGG

The town I live in has a world renowned Shakespeare Festival. So naturally many of the businesses here have names that play on titles of famous Shakespeare plays or lines. One of the plays featured this season is “Much Ado about Nothing”. This got me thinking about things we make “much ado” about. Some things are deserving and others are not. But one thing I think deserves much ado is UGG boots and the fantastic fall colors and styles that are coming out. There’s nothing like a change of season to get you giddy for new shoes! I believe I will be purchasing one of the hot new colors for fall UGG boots very soon, and then I will sport them to one of Mr. Shakespeare’s plays. Then everyone can make much ado about me! ;-)

Like a Kid in a Candy Store

When one is faced with so many wonderful choices, sometimes it is difficult to make a decision. Like that proverbial kid in the candy store, trying to choose just one pair of UGG boots can be quite a task. There are so many options! Which color? Which style? They all look so cute and feel so fantastic! If you find yourself faced with this dilemma my suggestion is go with your gut! If you see a pair that you keep gravitating towards, that’s probably the one that needs a home with you. In my experience the first instinct is always the right one. So whether it’s a pair of UGG Coquette slippers you can’t imagine going another day without or those adorable UGG Cardy’s that you know will look amazing with your skinny jeans; trust your heart, and your true UGG will follow.

UGG on Disney!

I was watching the Wizards of Waverly Place yesterday, (yes I was watching Disney, ) and I noticed that Selena Gomez was sporting some very cuteUGG Classic Talls with her PJs! Her character may have been tired, but the actress must have been pretty darn comfortable!

And she doesn’t limit her UGG wearing to her  television time, here’s Selena in some UGG boots while out shopping:

What other Disney actors have you seen sporting UGGs?

“Excuse me, you have something on your back…”

I’m not usually a labels girl. When I say labels, I mean wearing a designer’s clothes where the labels are plastered all over it so you become a walking billboard. This strategy is an ingenious advertising scheme. Not only do they not have to pay you for the advertising, you actually pay them! What company wouldn’t want to plaster their logo all over their garments if people are willing to buy them and sport them proudly wherever they go?
But that’s the thing about labels…some you want plastered on your garment because they are synonymous with quality. There are some designer’s names that when you see them you instantly know you are getting a quality product. UGG Australia is one of those. Buying a knock off won’t get you quality or longevity, in fact, it will get you quite the opposite. When you buy a pair of genuine UGG boots, you are getting a specially crafted product that is made with high quality materials. In the case of UGG boots, you definitely want the label. That label on the back means it’s the real deal. There are so many imposters out there, you don’t want to get stuck with a fake and wind up the patsy.
Make sure you’re buying real UGG boots. If you’re not sure the site you are visiting is a true blue authorized UGG Australia retailer, do the research. This will set your mind at ease and let you know you are purchasing the real McCoy. Real Label

Might as well face it I’m addicted to UGG!

I have a problem: I am a shoe addict. Not perhaps as bad as some, since I do have some limits. I don’t spend beyond my means, I don’t buy something pretty that I’ll never wear, and my choice of brands are generally moderately well-priced. (As in under $400….) I do however get an itch, every few weeks, to buy a new pair of shoes. Almost anything can spark it; I finally fit into my skinny jeans, time for a new pair of heels! Just bought a new summer skirt, time for some new strappy sandals! The sun is shining, time to buy new shoes!

This time it was a combination of all of the above: I DID fit into my skinny jeans, the sun is shining, and well, I do need to get some more skirts. All of this clearly points to the need for new shoes. However, summer points me in the direction of comfort over painful beauty, flats over heels, natural materials over plastic. It keeps happening: I want the UGG Classic Short. Now, I know I’ve been saying this for a while now, so why not just buy them already? Because I am a cautious shopper. I know I will love my UGG Classics no matter what,  so the lingering question is: what color?

What do you think? Versatile Black, classic Chestnut, or mix it up with a new color like Aqua?

UGG Men

It’s time to pay a little more attention to Men’s UGG boots. Men’s shoes in general seem to be overlooked, perhaps for the obvious reason that men don’t seem to pay as much attention to their footwear, and there is often less variety offered. But for those men who DO pay attention to their shoes, lets have a shout out for our UGG lovin’ guys! The UGG Stowe is a great example of an UGG Australia twist on a basic men’s shoe; a versatile re-imagining, only so much more comfortable! And let’s certainly not forget the Men’s UGG Classic Boot! So come on men, get your UGG on!

Dare to UGG

I have a project for all of you:  pick a pair UGG boots. These can be a pair you own, shoes you’ve wanted for ages, or a style you happened to see in a shop window.  From the shoes, create an outfit. Do something new, creative, daring, unusual with your wardrobe. Put items together you may not have otherwise thought to do, were it not for the inspiration of these shoes. I often will get dressed before selecting a pair of shoes to complete or complement my look. So let’s reverse it, pick the shoes first and let the rest fall into place. This may sound simple, but give it a try. Often we get stuck in an idea of what we can or cannot wear based on age, job, social role, or whatever. Let go of that, pick a pair of UGG boots or shoes that appeal to you and create a new look. You may surprise yourself in what you can create…
