No Uggervations

One of my favorite TV shows is Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations. If you’re not familiar with it, it’s basically a food travel show, where you watch Anthony travel from place to place and immerse himself in the food culture. Trust me, it’s brilliant and you will find yourself inspired to travel everywhere…or at least to try new food. Often, the best foods he comes across are fusion: a modern take on a classic dish.

Now, I love food. And I love shoes. Therefore, it seems logical that the principles that work with food would work with shoes! (Just go with me on this one.) What I mean is that some of the best fashion comes from fusing two ideas or styles together. Most styles today are revamped versions of popular items from the past century, from pedal pushers to leg warmers.

Just take a look at the new UGG Highkoo; take the popular slouch boot and add some fuzzy fabulousness on the sockliner! One of my favorite new UGG styles is the UGG Classic Argyle Knit Boot. I am of the opinion that argyle is the best pattern known to man, so what a beautiful example of fashion fusion to meld the comfort and style of UGG Australia with the dorky hotness of argyle knit!

What other UGG styles represent fusion fashion to you?

  • After careful and serious consideration of my top-ten favorite UGGs I narrowed it to two ‘fusions’!

The Gaviota; the fringes make it a sort of moccasin/boot–o please let it be called a mocc boot!
And Gissela; an ever-lady-like ankle boot! The side buckle gives it an equestrian air; however, the wedge heel is a throw back to World War II when rubber and leather were scarce and designer Salvatore Ferragamo is credited with inventing the wedge because it was more difficult to wear down and could be made of available materials, cork, etc. The wedge is fashion savvy these days, as are sound economic decisions, which makes the Gissela style a timely as well as adorable purchase!
