Trick or Treating and UGG

October is coming to a close. The days are shorter, the nights are colder, and orange and red leaves are carpeting the ground like an homage to 70’s shag carpets. Despite the fact that Halloween is less than a week away, some of us are still scrambling for costume ideas.

There is always a delicate balance between being inventive while not freezing in the late fall evening of trick or treating and festive parties. As I was pondering this age old question, it occurred to me that UGG might actually pose a solution to this problem.

Let’s take a look at a classic: cave person. (It’s very important to be politically correct when discussing Halloween, otherwise the dead Neanderthals may find themselves offended.) Raquel Welch is an icon as the prehistoric bombshell in One Million Years BC. Not only has that role survived the past few decades, but it has also offered the perfect inspiration for Halloween.

Granted, there’s not a lot of coverage going on for this costume. But, add some nude tights and a pair of UGG boots and you’ve got a way hotter look going! (Pun intended). Just look at boots like the Sundance II or the Ultimate Tas; they’ve already got the fringe/tribal look going. Add  a leather bikini and we’re ready to battle some dinosaurs!

Gleeful UGG

I love Glee (that new show on Fox about a show choir in high school.) There is something in me that finds an everlasting thrill in musical theater, geeky dancing and singing boys, and all that is camp fantastic. There is  only one down side to the whole experience: cold. I watch the show every week with a very good friend who enjoys the Glee as much as I do. However, this friend of mine has a significantly higher body temperature than I do. So, while it’s 50 degrees outside, windows are open and he’s in a T-shirt while I try to curl myself into the smallest ball possible to conserve heat.

But not this week! Last night I wore my new UGG boots to watch the show. Sitting at the end of the couch, watching the end of So You Think You Can Dance and the first musical number of Glee I realized something wonderful: I was warm! For the rest of the show as I squealed with glee (pun intended) at the quips, music and general happiness, I was toasty warm.

Now every Wednesday has just gotten a little bit better. Friends, shows, good food and purple UGG boots. Life is good!~

Schooled in UGG

I think I now understand why UGG boots are so popular with high school and college students. If I’m to assume that others had a similar schooling experience as I did, students are pretty darn-tootin’ busy. You’ve got classes, homework, part time job, extracurricular activities (such as band, cheerleading, sports, chess club, etc…), on top of which your friends and family will require a certain amount of time from you, . So, by mid-week when you’re dragging your tired body out of bed for another 12 hour day, who wouldn’t want to be comfortable?

Enter: UGG.

It makes perfect sense. These past few weeks my life has started to mirror my college life, but instead of school I have a job, and my homework is part of my extra-vocational activities. The first thing I want in the morning is a coffee the size of my head, and the last thing I want to do is cram my freezing toes into sensible but lusterless shoes. UGG boots make the day easier. The walk from the bed to the kitchen is warmer, the drive to work in my still freezing car, clutching my coffee in hope, is made more comfortable by the fuzzy fleece encasing my feet. And my long days are made endurable when I wiggle my toes in the most comfortable boots my feet have ever known.

UGG boots and slippers are my beacon of hope on the cold mornings when I would love nothing more than to crawl under the covers and sleep the day away. I would say that those students in the sweatpants and Classic Tall’s might be on to something: if you’re going to be sleepless, stressed and overworked, might as well be comfy!

UGG on Set

I was reading my newest volume of Vogue for November 2009 and I came across a review for the upcoming movie Nine, starring the likes of Daniel Day Lewis, Judi Dench, Kate Hudson, Marion Cotillard, Sophia Loren, Kate Hudson, Fergie and Nicole Kidman. You know, your average, humdrum cast.

Partway through the article Plum Sykes (Vogue journalist extraordinaire) turns her attention to Kate Hudson, and just happens to mention that while on break Ms. Hudson is wearing a pair of UGG boots! Picture this: star studded cast, brilliant set, and a pair of UGG boots! Perfect.

For the Love of UGG

Three days ago I bought my first pair of Classic Short UGG boots, in the beautiful Eggplant. Now that I’ve encountered my first real UGG love, I don’t ever want to take them off.

For example, yesterday I was feeling under the weather and spent the majority of the day sleeping. However, I had no desire to de-UGG my feet…so I positioned myself with my feet hanging off the bed so as to be able to keep my feet clad in in fleecey goodness.

Then today: I wore my UGG boots pretty much from the moment I woke up.  I wore them to my car, while driving, and only changed into my heels at the last minute, when I had to go to a meeting.

I’ve decided that UGG footwear should be worn all the time. You can wear them as house shoes to protect your feet from cold morning floors. You can wear them in the car, or for the more ambitious among us you can bet those UGG boots will keep you warm while biking to work. Going to coffee, to a movie, to yoga class, walking the dog…

People had warned me of the intensity of your first love. It consumes you and you don’t realize that your views are biased, not entirely based on reality, that you may want to spend more time together than is perhaps healthy. But I’ve found that UGG love, and we’re in the honeymoon phase. At this point I do believe we will never be parted. I know that eventually the fleece will lose some of it’s plush effulgence, and they will start to show age just as everything does. For now, though, that doesn’t matter. They are my first pair of UGG Classics and that is a powerful thing.

Retail Therapy is the Name of the Game

It has been a weird week. First they bomb the moon, then everyone I know starts having mild life crises. It’s just too much, I’m giving in: I’m buying my first pair of UGG Classics!

It’s been a long time coming. I’ve been wanting these boots for (literally) months, and I even had a vivid dream of wearing them.  I keep imagining outfits to wear them with, and wishing I had them to wear on days where I’m cold/tired/lazy. Which this week has been every day.

Besides, I want a treat! I really can’t think of a better treat than shoes that are warm and fuzzy and purple!

Finally, to all those who have maybe had a tough day today, I salute your resilience to keep going! And to me, I say: “Woot!!! I got me some UGG!”

UGG your blues away!

You know how every time the weather changes there are those special few who are guaranteed to get a cold? I’m one of those people. No matter what, every year I get a cold. It starts with the sniffles, a meek cough here and there, and before you know Kleenex has awarded me a medal for increasing their sales 50%.

The worst part is, with all the sneezing and sniffling nothing really helps. Those “soft” tissues feel like sandpaper after a few hours of use, and Vick’s Vapo Rub may feel nice at first, but really you just end up with a very awkward scent along with the embarrassing drippy nose.

Well, this year I’m taking a stand. No more rubbed-red noses and cough ointment that smells like Great Aunt Doris after her peppermint schnapps. This year it’s going to be comfort and coziness all the way!

It’s UGG time. I figure if I treat my toes to warm fleece my immune system will bolster itself. You know Grandma’s warning of “wear a jacket outside or you might catch a cold”? I’m taking it to heart and bundling up in some Classic Cardy’s. (If I’m going to follow Granny’s advice might as well wear boots she could have knitted. And yes, my Grandma is that good.)

Isn’t better to stress prevention over treatment? I suggest taking some preventative measures and getting some cozy UGG footwear in a cheerful colors, to ward off the winter blues!

‘Tis the Season for UGG

I’ve been preparing my holiday wish and gift list yet again and I’m forced to admit that a good portion of what’s on my lists are UGG. There’s the standard “I want  a pony” and ” a free trip to New York” to keep up with tradition, but the UGG wishes are sneaking in.

For the tiny people in my life I’m so very tempted to splurge for some tiny fleecey boots in fun colors to keep their toes warm for the winter. For myself, I’ve been dreaming of those Classic Short boots for oh so long! It’s that much more difficult to refrain when looking at the beautiful new colors this season: Eggplant, Pacific and Terracotta. Or the Classic Tall in Mulberry and Navy!

So, what’s on your UGG wish list this season?

Ugg:Making Morning Walks Possible

My dog does this really cute thing- when he wants to go outside he brings me a shoe. And being a pretty smart pup, he generally brings me my favorites. So when I awoke this morning at 6 to the sounds of a desperate dog, I was happy to see that he had brought me one of my UGG Classic Short boots. I slipped it on and suddenly it wasn’t so bad that I had been roused to brave the frigid morning, I was ready and equipped for it.
As the weather has gotten colder I’ve noticed that my UGG boots are practically glued to my feet again. It happens every year, suddenly every other shoe I own is irrelevant. And you know what? Just like with the 6 am forays into the outdoors, my fuzzy fleece boots even soften the transition into winter. So even though the summer is coming to an end, at least there are mittens, scarves, sweaters and my trusty Classic Short Boots in lovely chocolate to look forward to. Now if I can just train the dog to bring me coffee too…

Spice up your life!

Part of what is so depressing about winter is the lack of color. In Autumn we get the changing colors in the trees, the gradual shift from summer sun to winter clouds, highlighted by cold sunny days and gorgeous sunsets. Then winter hits and all you’ve got is white snow, grey clouds, and endless rain.

On the other hand, the colder months herald the beginning of my favorite fashion: cardigans, boots,  scarves and anything that can be layered. Layers, that’s the key to spicing up the cold weather doldrums. Patterned tights, colored boots, bright scarves, and flouncy hats.

UGG boots this season are very encouraging to my Fall Fashion World View. (Yes, that does deserve full capitalization.) Just look at the Classic Tall Stripe Cable Knit? What better way to integrate warm, cozy fashion and fun patterns? Or the Bailey Button Metallic: get some saucy, shiny glow with a nifty variation on the UGG Classic.

One of my favorites for the new season, though, has to be the UGG Highkoo. Just picture this fabulous slouch boot with patterned tights, a mid-length skirt, cardigan and scarf? Oh, it’s perfect!

And best of all the Highkoo will still be perfect for everyday wear once the world warms up again in the Spring. When you look at it that way, it’s really an investment….
