These ARE your Mothers’ boots!

I was walking down the street the other day, on the way to my local bakery for a delicious morning cookie (yeah, you heard me) when I saw a woman loading bags into your car. I don’t remember what she was wearing, but I do remember seeing her in Classic Tall Chestnut UGG boots! I saw the official UGG logo on the heel  and and felt a little flutter of glee that she had the REAL deal. I know it’s stereotypical to think that high school girls are the main target group for UGG. Well, that misconception is rapidly changing. She was probably in her mid-fifties, and I’ve got to say she rocked her UGG boots. I think it needs to be made official that UGG is timeless, a stylish comfort for any age!

Personality Traits and Tastes

I’ve noticed that a good portion of what part of my personality I exhibit on any given day is affected by the shoes I wear. Today I want to be a kindergartner who stayed home sick to watch movies all day. I think that means I should be wearing the UGG Cluggette.

Easy to slip on, and just lusciously encompassing the toes in a happy fleece slipper. If I were feeling slightly more energetic and adventurous, but still pretty mellow I think I’d go for the Bailey Button. It’s a cute new variation on the Classic UGG, but with a daring new cut. If the day was in need of some disco inspiration, then the Bailey Button Metallic might be necessary.

Every now and then, I don’t wake up feeling soft and cuddly. I wake up feeling like biker whose Harley just got stolen. On those days the UGG Endell is certain to be on my feet.

It still has the fleece lining to comfort my poor legs that have to walk rather than ride, but are sturdy enough to protect my turf!

Almost every girl has a “Sex and the City” day, where you dress up and decide to show your city, town, or tipi village who’s boss. Those are the “Caroline” days. This boot has so much sass it can barely contain itself!

In the end, despite any changes of moods and aspects of personality, I generally prefer to keep it simple. I do like a bit of personality, though. So my boot for the Fall is the Ultra Short.

With a sturdy base that will take me wherever I want to go, and a fleece lined shaft that can be rolled down for a cute different look, this is the boot for me! (And the for the rest of my personalities….)

The UGG in the “Bones”

So, I had a very exciting evening last night, full of home made burritos, wine, and TV re-runs. Nothing really exciting happened, but I did notice something chic hiding in the background in an episode of Bones. The episode was “The Boy in the Time Capsule” and I’ll spare the gory details, but as the two main characters are discussing the current murder plot what do I see behind them? An extra/high schooler wearing what looks like a pair of Classic Tall Chestnut UGG boots!

UGG is prevalent off the set of Bones as well. David Boreanaz (who plays Special Agent Seeley Booth) puts his son Jaden in his own little pair of UGG boots!

It’s not what you say that counts…

I’ve been thinking about statements lately. It seems like we all like to make some distinct impression on the people we meet, be it a new friend or a stranger on the street. We make verbal statements to identify our cultural background, marital status, or age bracket. We also make visual statements based on how we hold ourselves, our clothing, our manner of walking and gesturing.

Studies show that 60% of the information we receive from others is based on nonverbals and body language.  On top of that only 10% of any communication is processed through the words you say. Based on that information, verbal statements don’t mean that much.

So let’s focus on visual statements. A good portion of visual statements are going to be based on your personality and how you approach the world. If you stand tall (whether you’re 5 foot or 6′1″), if you gesture emphatically or sit on your hands, whether you fidget or sit still. All these things say something about you. But that’s only part of the visual. There’s also what you wear. A Chanel suit says something very different about your tastes than a rocker skirt from Hot Topic.

I’ve been thinking about what statement I want to make with what I wear. I like length in clothing, and I always find it striking when I see someone wearing an item of clothing that is longer or more voluminous than average. Tube top floor length dresses, thigh high boots, knee length scarves: anything that draws the eye to take in the full lenght of the body wearing it is impressive in some way.

Such accessories and style choices are not always sensible, of course. Floor length dresses are easy to trip on and we all know how Isadora Duncan met her fate wearing one of those long flowy scarves.  (And if you don’t know, click here.)

Overwhelming statements can be wonderful, but sometimes it’s good to go halfway. If the thigh high boot seems a bit much, how about the UGG Raya? The heel immediately grabs attention, and the silhouette of the boot draws the eyes upward to acknowledge the rest of the leg. There is also the new UGG Highkoo, in it’s unassuming low heel and slouch, it’s just high up enough the calf to grab some attention.

There are all sorts of ways to make a statement. Take a look at fleecefootwear.com and find yours!

Celebrity UGG Spotting

Salma Hayek was recently spotted on location of her new movie “Grown Ups” wearing an UGG Classic Short in Chocolate between takes. With her lovely little daughter Valentina Paloma on her hip, she looks comfy and happy!

Art and Sole

It is a sad day today for this country, and it’s a little difficult to know what to write about on this blog today. As we experience the anniversary of  an historic and devastating day, perhaps it’s best to just focus on a positive thought, however silly.

I pick the St Jude Charity Auction hosted by UGG Australia. Every year for the past four years UGG has recruited celebrities to decorate their own unique boot, which is then auctioned off to the highest bidder, along with a signed photograph of the celebrity. Every single penny goes to support the St Jude Children’s Research Hospital. St Jude’s dedicates itself to finding cures and treatments for debilitating child illnesses, and offers treatment to those who need it without requiring health insurance or payment from those who cannot afford it.

It is a truly beautiful act to be able to give something to those who have so little. I have a great deal of respect for companies and individuals who recognize that if you have some extra, why not give back to a community?

It’s the thoughtful gestures, the little things, that count.

No Uggervations

One of my favorite TV shows is Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations. If you’re not familiar with it, it’s basically a food travel show, where you watch Anthony travel from place to place and immerse himself in the food culture. Trust me, it’s brilliant and you will find yourself inspired to travel everywhere…or at least to try new food. Often, the best foods he comes across are fusion: a modern take on a classic dish.

Now, I love food. And I love shoes. Therefore, it seems logical that the principles that work with food would work with shoes! (Just go with me on this one.) What I mean is that some of the best fashion comes from fusing two ideas or styles together. Most styles today are revamped versions of popular items from the past century, from pedal pushers to leg warmers.

Just take a look at the new UGG Highkoo; take the popular slouch boot and add some fuzzy fabulousness on the sockliner! One of my favorite new UGG styles is the UGG Classic Argyle Knit Boot. I am of the opinion that argyle is the best pattern known to man, so what a beautiful example of fashion fusion to meld the comfort and style of UGG Australia with the dorky hotness of argyle knit!

What other UGG styles represent fusion fashion to you?

Vegging out with UGG

I went grocery shopping the other day, like I do every now and then when I realize all I have left to eat is cereal and canned beans. As I was perusing the local peaches and organic tomatoes I happened to glance down to see a pair of UGG Classic Tall boots in Chestnut. Now, this story might be more interesting if they were just hanging out in the veggie aisle and just happened to be my size and we lived happily ever after, but sadly that is not the case. However, I was very pleased to glance up and see that the woman wearing them was not a Jessica/Felicity/Britney looking blond with pencil straight hair and a skirt so small it’s barely a handkerchief. No, this was a mature woman, in nice casual wear, sporting her genuine UGG boots on a trip to the market.

This is inspiring! So much of how UGG is marketed is toward high schoolers and those who want to be them. It’s about time that women (and men) of ALL ages embrace this comfort trend! So come on, people of all ages! Let’s grab a pair of Classic Short in a fabulous new color like Eggplant, or the Classic Tall in Mulberry and go peruse some beautiful produce at your local Farmers Market!

Seasonless Fashion

moneypic

Many things have been effected by the state of the economy today, not the least of which is the fashion and footwear industries and their loyal fans. I recently read an article about the changing face of seasonal fashion, people are wearing winter clothes in the summer, summer clothes in the winter, and so on. The summer scarf is a great example of this trend as is the “UGG Classic Tall with shorts” ensemble. I believe that people are switching up their look and mixing and matching things from opposite corners of their closets to liven up their wardrobe without having to crack their pocketbook open. The fashion industry has begun to follow suit and many companies are adding items such as spring boots and summer scarves to their collections. Personally, I am a HUGE fan of this trend. Having grown up in a relatively season less place (the Oregon Coast where it is usually 55 degrees and most of the time it’s raining). I’ve never been one to have a separate Summer and Winter wardrobe so this trend is perfect. How do you feel about it? Do you sport Spring boots or a Summer scarf?

The LBD of UGG

I’d like to propose a toast to the sexy UGG, the beautiful and sassy Elsey.

elsey_black

The sleek curve of the wedge heel, the laces that can be wound tight around a sleek calf and loosened to reveal the beautiful bare leg it enfolds. The soft, full fleece the plushly enfolds your foot from toes, over the curve of the ankle, up to just below the knee. Best of all, the high quality sheepskin in black, the same color as your Little Black Dress.

Any other contenders for sexiest UGG boot?
