Art and Sole
It is a sad day today for this country, and it’s a little difficult to know what to write about on this blog today. As we experience the anniversary of an historic and devastating day, perhaps it’s best to just focus on a positive thought, however silly.
I pick the St Jude Charity Auction hosted by UGG Australia. Every year for the past four years UGG has recruited celebrities to decorate their own unique boot, which is then auctioned off to the highest bidder, along with a signed photograph of the celebrity. Every single penny goes to support the St Jude Children’s Research Hospital. St Jude’s dedicates itself to finding cures and treatments for debilitating child illnesses, and offers treatment to those who need it without requiring health insurance or payment from those who cannot afford it.
It is a truly beautiful act to be able to give something to those who have so little. I have a great deal of respect for companies and individuals who recognize that if you have some extra, why not give back to a community?
It’s the thoughtful gestures, the little things, that count.
No Uggervations
One of my favorite TV shows is Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations. If you’re not familiar with it, it’s basically a food travel show, where you watch Anthony travel from place to place and immerse himself in the food culture. Trust me, it’s brilliant and you will find yourself inspired to travel everywhere…or at least to try new food. Often, the best foods he comes across are fusion: a modern take on a classic dish.
Now, I love food. And I love shoes. Therefore, it seems logical that the principles that work with food would work with shoes! (Just go with me on this one.) What I mean is that some of the best fashion comes from fusing two ideas or styles together. Most styles today are revamped versions of popular items from the past century, from pedal pushers to leg warmers.
Just take a look at the new UGG Highkoo; take the popular slouch boot and add some fuzzy fabulousness on the sockliner! One of my favorite new UGG styles is the UGG Classic Argyle Knit Boot. I am of the opinion that argyle is the best pattern known to man, so what a beautiful example of fashion fusion to meld the comfort and style of UGG Australia with the dorky hotness of argyle knit!
What other UGG styles represent fusion fashion to you?
Vegging out with UGG
I went grocery shopping the other day, like I do every now and then when I realize all I have left to eat is cereal and canned beans. As I was perusing the local peaches and organic tomatoes I happened to glance down to see a pair of UGG Classic Tall boots in Chestnut. Now, this story might be more interesting if they were just hanging out in the veggie aisle and just happened to be my size and we lived happily ever after, but sadly that is not the case. However, I was very pleased to glance up and see that the woman wearing them was not a Jessica/Felicity/Britney looking blond with pencil straight hair and a skirt so small it’s barely a handkerchief. No, this was a mature woman, in nice casual wear, sporting her genuine UGG boots on a trip to the market.
This is inspiring! So much of how UGG is marketed is toward high schoolers and those who want to be them. It’s about time that women (and men) of ALL ages embrace this comfort trend! So come on, people of all ages! Let’s grab a pair of Classic Short in a fabulous new color like Eggplant, or the Classic Tall in Mulberry and go peruse some beautiful produce at your local Farmers Market!
Seasonless Fashion

Many things have been effected by the state of the economy today, not the least of which is the fashion and footwear industries and their loyal fans. I recently read an article about the changing face of seasonal fashion, people are wearing winter clothes in the summer, summer clothes in the winter, and so on. The summer scarf is a great example of this trend as is the “UGG Classic Tall with shorts” ensemble. I believe that people are switching up their look and mixing and matching things from opposite corners of their closets to liven up their wardrobe without having to crack their pocketbook open. The fashion industry has begun to follow suit and many companies are adding items such as spring boots and summer scarves to their collections. Personally, I am a HUGE fan of this trend. Having grown up in a relatively season less place (the Oregon Coast where it is usually 55 degrees and most of the time it’s raining). I’ve never been one to have a separate Summer and Winter wardrobe so this trend is perfect. How do you feel about it? Do you sport Spring boots or a Summer scarf?
The LBD of UGG
I’d like to propose a toast to the sexy UGG, the beautiful and sassy Elsey.

The sleek curve of the wedge heel, the laces that can be wound tight around a sleek calf and loosened to reveal the beautiful bare leg it enfolds. The soft, full fleece the plushly enfolds your foot from toes, over the curve of the ankle, up to just below the knee. Best of all, the high quality sheepskin in black, the same color as your Little Black Dress.
Any other contenders for sexiest UGG boot?
UGG Sighting
Last night I was watching Because I Said So on TV, which is a fun chick flick for a Sunday night. I was just vegging out, eating dinner in bed and suddenly I saw something in the movie that caught my attention: UGG! In one scene Diane Keaton is wearing white leggings and a white long sleeved shirt and looks to be Classic Tall Chestnuts as her character was lazing about the house watching old movies. Now, not many women can pull that look off but I’ve got to say that the former Annie Hall can still rock a bold outfit choice!

A few scenes later on comes Mandy Moore sporting her Classic Short Grey UGG boots with jeans and a sweater. I personally really like Mandy Moore as an actress, and she is just so neurotically lovable in this movie, the UGG boots only add to her appeal.

Iconoclastic Craze
As I was getting dressed this morning, I almost decided to wear my UGG boots. There is a new crispness to the air today, a grey foretelling of the oncoming Autumn. I decided to wear a flowy long dress, and feeling very hippie-fancy free I chose basic flip flops for my footwear of the day.
Then I got to thinking: perhaps UGG can be a part of the new hippie look. The majority of indie-chic fashion is based around comfort and freedom of movement. Lord knows a good number of hippies have lived in the woods or been surfers at one point or another, and what with pine needles and coarse sand some sort of shoes can be helpful. As most restaurants and stores will tell you being barefoot isn’t an option (no shirt, no shoes, no service!), so clearly the modern day mellow rebel needs something to wear on their feet.
Flip flops are great, but over a long period of time you kind of get sick of that flapping noise you make every time you move. Birkenstocks are a good sandal to take the place of flip flops but it is a rather cliche shoe for the environmentally and health conscious. If you think about it, UGGreally isn’t a bad choice. You get the comfort of bare feet, and the style of a fashion label. (Though that does spark the whole question of being a sell-out hippie if you bathe and wear nice shoes…)
Some of the UGG styles lend themselves quite well to the modern bohemian style. Take the new Gaviota for instance: a little Native American themed fringe in a sturdy but cute short boot. Not bad for your gauchos and peasant blouse.
If you have an inner flower child yearning for comfort, but clinging to style, why not take a look at what UGG Australia has to offer? You may be surprised at what you find.
Note: I mean no derogatory or generalized assumptions when using the term “hippie.” Whatever your associated ideas are with this title, feel free to read it as such.
A matter of perspective…
You know what’s fun to do? Judge other people. It’s a rather dreadful part of the human experience, but we all do it. And we judge the stupidest things too: “You did WHAT to your hair?” “You want to be THAT when you grow up?” “You asked WHO to prom?” It seems we never tire of telling people what we think of their choices, or mocking others to our friends. Sometimes it’s as though high school never ended.
Most of the judgments we make are purely superficial, and not really meant to harm. However, most of the time they are negative. So, for today I want to try something different: let’s take something we might not usually find aesthetically appealing, and find the good side! Let’s celebrate people’s bizarre and daring fashion choices:
First on the list:
Actress Lucy Davis on a break during filming. Let’s applaud her daring in color choices, and embracing comfort (and UGG!)in her hectic schedule!
Then, of course, Katie Price is always up for a daring move:
Who else do you know who would have the panache to carry off beautiful Classic Tall Sunflower boots with leopard print leggings? Ms. Price is doing her part to celebrate the 80’s!
Bruce Willis gets major points firstly for being man enough to wear a pair of UGG Classic boots! And of course, for paying respectful homage to the cavemen of latter years.

Last, but certainly not least, the adorable and talented Dakota Fanning. What inventiveness it takes to wear schoolgirl knee-high socks with a pair of UGG slippers! Her ingenuity is just a part of what makes her such a brilliant young actress.

So, how did that feel? Isn’t it just as much fun to decide to acknowledge the value of creative choices, over an accepted and mundane aesthetic? Let’s be daring, and who cares what others think!
All you need is UGG
Summer is almost over. The cool weather is starting up, getting a little chillier each morning and getting darker earlier in the evening. For many of us, getting dressed gets harder around this time. It becomes more about layers that can be taken off and put back on throughout the day to deal with the shifting temperatures.
Or, you could try something classic: UGG with a swimsuit.

Yeah. You heard me. I know, it sounds crazy, but Ms. Pam rocked her UGG/swimwear look on Baywatch. Perhaps you don’t want to follow her fashion footsteps, (let’s face it, there have been some doozies!) but you’ve got to give her props for daring!
Then again, we can also take a look at the fabulous Kylie Minogue:

Who else could look so effortlessly diva-esque and statuesque in a white unitard and UGG?
Come to think of it, look at the girls used by UGG to advertise their boots. Half the time they’re not even wearing clothes, just boots and a birthday suit!
So maybe your Fall wardrobe doesn’t have to change. Just add a pair of UGG boots to your summer gear and you are good to go! (And I dare you to try the Lady Godiva/UGG look…)
